Donald Trump has announced his intention to eliminate the automatic granting of citizenship to children born on U.S. soil, regardless of their parents' status. This was reported by the BBC.
In a recent interview, Trump stated that he plans to implement changes through executive orders immediately after his inauguration on January 20.
The right to citizenship by birth is enshrined in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which declares that “all persons born” in the country are U.S. citizens.
“We need to change this,” Trump noted, adding that it may require amendments to the American Constitution.
The elected president confirmed his intention to continue deporting illegal migrants, including families with members who are U.S. citizens. “I don’t want to break up families, so the only way to keep them together is to deport everyone,” the politician stated.
