The Turkish group Rönesans Holding continues to express interest in participating in the development of Uzbekistan's transport infrastructure, as reported by the Ministry of Transport.
The head of the ministry, Ilkhom Makhkamov, met with the chairman of the holding, Kamil Yanikomeroglu, on December 3. The discussions focused on the implementation of major infrastructure projects based on public-private partnerships.
Yanikomeroglu highlighted Rönesans's particular interest in participating in the construction project of the high-speed railway from Tashkent to Samarkand.
In May, representatives of Rönesans, along with the Istanbul branch of the Japanese group Sojitz, held negotiations with Makhkamov's deputy, Jasurbek Choriyev. The parties discussed opportunities for participating in the construction of toll roads.
The plans to construct a separate line for high-speed traffic were discussed by the first deputy head of "Uzbekiston Temir Yullari" in November 2023. According to him, the current infrastructure is insufficient for the growing volume of passenger and freight transport.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the construction of high-speed railway corridors at the September meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank's governors in Samarkand. These will run along the routes Tashkent – Samarkand and Samarkand – Navoi – Bukhara.
Earlier, Spot reported that the Kyrgyz authorities allocated $14 million for the railway project connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
