On January 6, members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis discussed a draft law aimed at prohibiting the circulation of electronic cigarettes within their factions.

The UzLiDeP faction reviewed the draft law in its first reading, which is intended to ban the distribution of specific types of tobacco products, devices for consuming tobacco and nicotine, including electronic cigarettes.

During the discussion, the deputies noted that in recent years, electronic tobacco products have been illegally imported and sold in Uzbekistan. Their consumption has increased among the population, especially among the youth.

“This draft law prohibits the storage, transportation, or transfer of certain types of tobacco products, devices for consuming tobacco and nicotine, including electronic cigarettes, within the territory of the republic,” the statement said.

The document also stipulates administrative and criminal liability for the import or export of electronic tobacco products from the territory of the republic.

Furthermore, the same draft law was discussed in the first proposal by the deputies of the "Milliy Tiklanish" party. The proposal to ban the circulation of electronic cigarettes was unanimously supported by the faction members.

The press service of the "Milliy Tiklanish" faction published a photo from today’s meeting, which was attended by former Minister of Health Amrillo Inoyatov. Since January 2024, he has been heading the Institute of Health and Strategic Development.

“If such cigarettes, which seriously affect the genetic pool of the nation, are banned in 32 countries, why shouldn’t we restrict them too? No matter what anyone says, until electronic cigarettes are strictly prohibited, we will continue to vote against this draft law,” stated the leader of the "Milliy Tiklanish" party, Alisher Kadirov.

In April 2024, the Ministry of Health presented a draft law for discussion that aims to prohibit the import and sale of electronic cigarettes (vapes) and tobacco heating systems. It was proposed to introduce administrative and criminal liability for violations of the ban.
